CBD: What is it, and why should I be using it?

It seems like since 2018, CBD has become increasingly popular. Some may be asking themselves, “What even is CBD?”. If you have this question, you aren’t alone. In this article we’re going to discuss some of the basics of CBD to let you know exactly why this ingredient is a powerhouse. Below are some of the commonly asked questions when it comes to CBD and its use.

What is CBD?

CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol.The prefix ‘canna-’ lets you know that the ingredient comes from cannabis. Cannabidiol is actually the second most abundant element in the cannabis (marijuana) plant. You can basically break down a cannabis plant into two elements: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) which is extracted and separated from the THC chemicals. Although CBD is a main component of the marijuana plant, it is derived or extracted directly from the hemp plant which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. reHemp’s CBD comes from the hemp plant.

Marijuana is illegal where I live. Can I purchase CBD?

Absolutely! CBD that is regularly available for purchase across the states has to be lab tested to make sure it contains no more than 0.3%. This is a legal limit that is regulated. Not all CBD oil is created equally. There are some CBD oils that do contain THC and are referred to as full spectrum. These aren’t generally available to be shipped across the United States. Our CBD is 100% THC free or broad spectrum, so they are legal to be purchased everywhere.

Does CBD have THC in it?

CBD that is extracted from cannabis does contain both CBD and THC and during the extraction process, the CBD is filtered away from the THC. The legal amount of THC that is allowed in CBD products is 0.3%. We opted to have third party lab testing performed on our products to make sure that they are legal for sale in all areas. Once again, reHEMP’s CBD comes from the hemp plant and is broad spectrum or 100% THC free which is indicated in our third party lab test reports.

Can you experience an “altered” state from CBD?

You cannot experience an “altered” state from CBD. THC is the chemical that causes the psychoactive effects on the brain. Since there isn’t any THC (or such minimal amounts) in CBD products, there will be no hallucinogenic effects when consumed or applied. 

How is your CBD extracted?

Does the FDA regulate CBD?

CBD is not federally regulated, they are regulated at the state level. With that being said, the facility that our products are manufactured in are FDA certified under Current Good Manufacturing Practice in San Diego, California.
